This Privacy Statement ("Statement") applies to www.middlemarketcenter.org and any subdomain of www.middlemarketcenter.org (the "Sites"), which are owned or controlled by The National Center for the Middle Market (NCMM), at The Ohio State University, Fisher College of Business, although software, hosting and other functions and content may be provided by third parties. Throughout the Sites, the terms "we," "us" and "our" refer to NCMM. This Statement describes the types of information NCMM collects from visitors to the Sites, what we do with this information, with whom we share this information, and how visitors can update the information they provide on the Sites. This Statement does not apply to any other web sites or information provided to NCMM by any other means (such as email or offline activities).

WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?

Personal Information You Provide

You may browse our Sites without disclosing any personal information. To use certain features of our Sites, however, you will need to provide some personal information. If you use an interactive feature such as “contact”, “subscribe”, or interact with us, you will need to provide us with certain information, including your contact information (e.g., name, address, telephone number and/or email address) and various other data elements about you in order for us to respond to your inquiry or send you the materials you seek. If you choose not to provide this information, we may be unable to provide you with the information, products, or services that you seek.

Information We Collect by Automated Means

When you visit our Site, our Web servers collect the name of the domain you used to access the Internet (such as Google.com), which pages on our Sites you visited and when they were visited, your Internet browser type and platform, the link that brought you to our Sites and any links clicked within our Sites. If you decide to request information, products, or services from us, we may collect additional automated information in order to provide tailored offerings or content to you or to deliver such products and services.

Cookies and Local Shared Objects (LSO):

If you visit our Sites, a cookie is used to help us measure the number of visits, average time spent, page views and other statistics relating to our Sites. A cookie is a small piece of data stored by your Internet browser on your computer's hard drive. Our cookies are not used to get data from your hard drive or obtain your e-mail address or identity. We Do Not Knowingly Collect Information From Children

This Sites are not directed to or intended for individuals under 18 years of age and we do not knowingly solicit information from children under 18 years of age.

HOW DO WE USE THE INFORMATION THAT WE COLLECT?

NCMM, our Affiliates, Service Providers and our Business Partners use the personal information submitted to it in the following ways: to provide individuals with personalized service, to send email alerts to subscribers, to answer individual requests, and to identify key constituents and the information they will find most relevant. An individual may choose to opt out at any time, which will cease all communications from NCMM.

Website user information is also used to:

  • Measure the number of visits, average time spent, page views and other statistics about visitors to our Sites
  • Monitor the Sites' performance and make the Sites easier and more convenient to use
  • Recognize you on subsequent visits, enhance your online experience and make our provision of products and services more efficient

In connection with the administration of the Sites and/or to offer you the products and services on the Sites, NCMM may need to transfer your personal information and to store and process it in countries other than the one in which you reside or work. You hereby acknowledge and provide your consent to NCMM to transfer, store and process your personal information across national boundaries for any purposes described in this Statement.

WHEN DO WE DISCLOSE INFORMATION TO THIRD PARTIES?

When you provide information to us through our Site, we may share your information with Service Providers we have retained to perform services on our behalf. These Service Providers are not authorized by us to use or disclose the information except as necessary to perform services on our behalf or comply with legal requirements. We may share your information with our Affiliates and Business Partners to fulfill your requests, service your account, improve our services, and develop, inform you about and provide you with offers about our products, services, and events as well as those of our Affiliates and Business Partners. We may also share your personal information with our Affiliates, Service Providers and Business Partners for their own marketing purposes.

Additionally, we may disclose your information: (i) if we are required or permitted to do so by law or legal process; (ii) to law enforcement authorities; (iii) when we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to prevent physical harm or financial loss or in connection with an investigation of suspected or actual illegal activity; or in the event that all or part of NCMM or all or part of its assets are acquired by, merged with, sold to, or otherwise disposed of to one or more third parties (including, without limitation, in the event of bankruptcy).

WHAT CHOICES DO YOU HAVE AND HOW CAN YOU ACCESS/UPDATE YOUR DATA?

When you first provide us with your email address, you will be given the choice to direct us not to send you marketing communications. We will also include instructions in our email messages on how to unsubscribe if you later decide you do not want to receive any future marketing communications from us or from our Affiliates or Business Partners.

At times, we conduct online surveys/polls to better understand the needs, profiles and experience of our visitors. You will be given the option of not participating in such surveys/polls.

WHAT ARE YOUR CALIFORNIA PRIVACY RIGHTS?

Under California’s “Shine the Light” law, NCMM’s customers who are California residents may request and obtain a notice once a year about the personal information NCMM shared with other businesses for their own direct marketing purposes. This notice includes a list of the categories of personal information that was shared (if any) and the names and addresses of all third parties with which the personal information was shared (if any). WHAT STEPS DO WE TAKE TO PROTECT YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?

Our goal is to protect your personal information submitted to us through this Site. We and our Service Providers have implemented technical and organizational measures designed to protect against loss or unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration or destruction of the information you provide on our Site.

We instruct our employees with access to your personal information that it must be used only in adherence with the principles set forth in this Statement and applicable laws. Employees who misuse customer information are subject to disciplinary action.

DOES THIS PRIVACY STATEMENT APPLY TO SITES WE LINK TO?

The Sites may provide links to other sites, but this Statement applies only to the Sites. Any information you disclose through other sites is subject to the privacy statement or policy of those other sites and we are not responsible for the content, privacy practices or your use of the sites.

DOES THIS STATEMENT APPLY TO INTERNATIONAL USERS?

The Sites are controlled, operated and administered by NCMM and its Service Providers from various facilities in the United States and around the world. This Statement is provided in accordance with and subject to applicable U.S. law. If you access the Sites from a location outside the U.S., you agree that your use of the Sites is subject to the terms of this Statement.

HOW WILL WE TELL YOU ABOUT CHANGES TO OUR PRIVACY STATEMENT?

We reserve the right to modify or supplement this Statement at any time. If we make any material change to the Statement, we will update our Sites to include such changes. We recommend that you review this Statement regularly for changes.
